African Family: Part 24

...I stood up immediately, I had become nervous

The thoughts of how dad would react to my result flooded my mind although I didn't even know what he originally expected of me.

"Daddy welcome" I greeted immediately he stepped in

"Thank you" he replied and proceeded to hug his wife...

"Welcome dear, how was work?" Mum asked

He replied positively and went to his room to freshen up, then came back after sometime to eat

We ate together that afternoon and it was while we ate that dad asked about my results

"Victor, how was your party" he asked with a mouthful of food

If it was to be a different occasion, he would be the one to speak against talking with a mouth full of food...

I answered his question anyways

"It was fine"

"Did you do any presentation?" He asked again, this time with less food in his mouth

I told him about the mass choir and how I had a cracked voice after performing with them

Then he asked about my results...

"Hope you took your results?"

"Yes, I got seventh" I replied immediately, I didn't need anyone to tell me that he would ask of my position next

He was silent

I looked at him, he seemed surprised, but I couldn't tell if he was happy with the result or disappointed...

"You moved from 19th to 7th position?" He finally spoke

I smiled

"That's impressive"

I couldn't stop smiling, mum told him about the prize I got for being the best improved student in my class and he congratulated me

I used the opportunity to ask for my laptop back, I would just manage what I have and hope that I would pass dad's challenge next term

"Erm, daddy, now that we have finished exams, please can you give me my laptop back?" I pleaded

He waited a while before answering

"Okay no problem, eat your food, later I will give you the laptop"

I continued eating and I eventually forgot to get my laptop back that day. It was when dad came back from work the next day, he called me to his room and handed me my laptop bag

I thanked him and carried the laptop back to my room, I also noticed it felt a little lighter as if it wasn't my laptop that was inside

I got to my room and unzipped the bag and true to my thoughts, it wasn't my laptop that was inside...when I couldn't hold myself any longer, I let out a scream

...TBC...
