African Family: Part 5

I followed him to the parlour, he just sat down and stared at me

I was already feeling nervous because it seemed that he had found out but I cleared the thought because I was confident in myself that I had set up everything perfectly

"What were you doing in Emmanuel's room with his laptop?" Dad finally broke the silence

"I was...I...I was just doing...I was just doing some research" I stuttered

There was another bout of silence, dad just continued looking at me...

Hmmm...

"Research on what?" He asked again

"Erm...social studies"

"Social studies?"

"Yes"

At this point I felt like he was buying the lie, so the nervousness was slowly disappearing

"What topic?" He asked again

"Human rights" I answered

"Hmm, wonderful"

"Yes" I said amidst smiles, it was obvious that he was impressed with my studies

Although he was still holding the hangers in his hands like he wanted to flog someone

"But why are you studying social studies, is it what you're writing tomorrow?"

"Yes" I replied without thinking

"That's what you're writing tomorrow?"

"Yes Daddy"

"Are you sure that's what you're writing tomorrow?" He asked again

This time, I became uncomfortable with the questioning but I could not place a finger on the reason for it

"Yes" I replied for the third time

He looked sideways, bowed his head and laughed silently

"Victor" he called

"Yes Daddy"

"Are you aware that tomorrow is Sunday?"

...TBC...
