African Family: Part 8

...My excitement died immediately, I managed to pick up the phone and tried to switch it on...

"This boy is just something else"

That was my sister, Favour

I ignored her and switched the phone on but the screen had developed fault so the phone could not function properly

Dad went inside, I got scared that he wanted to bring a cloth hanger and whip me again, but he came back with his own phone which we used to finish the conversation with uncle Fred

After the call, we had to go eat...

We ate the fruits salad that mummy prepared

Although I don't like being shouted at, but dad's silence over the spoilt phone added to my guilt so I avoided eye contact with anyone while eating

I was almost done eating so I was getting relieved and hoping that nobody brought up the matter again...

But Favour had different plans...

"Daddy" she called

"Yes?" He replied...I still buried my face in the food and I think Emmanuel was not also interested in their conversation

"Won't you punish Victor for spoiling mummy's phone?" Favour asked

That was when I looked up...this girl is really wicked

"Is there any need?" My dad asked the question that gave me hope

"There's need o, if you don't punish him for it he will feel like he did not commit any crime and he will do it again" she explained

"But it was not intentional, it was a mistake" I defended myself

"Even so, he has to pay for his mistakes" she dragged

"That's true..." Dad reasoned

"I think I'll deduct the cost of repairs from your allowance next month"

"Daddy na, but the screen is more than my allowance" I pleaded but Favour supported dad's decision

"So you knew that the screen is expensive but you could not handle it with care, serves you right"

I just kept quiet because I knew I couldn't change dad's mind...I continued eating but Favour refused to let me rest

"No allowance for you next moooonth"

...TBC...
